Reviews & Recommendations

"I just wanted to thank you and the whole team at Great Lakes String Quartet for a great night last week (23 Dec at the University Club at MSU). The group was exactly what we needed - they were prompt, very friendly and set a great tone for the evening."

"Hey John,
I wanted to write you a little note to let you know how impressed I was with the Great Lakes String Quartet! They did an absolute fabulous job and made our wedding day so special with their talent! I am so grateful I chose you to perform at our wedding! I was a bit nervous because of never having met you, but our communication by e-mail was great and I am just so pleased with GLSQ! I will definitely recommend the GLSQ to everyone in Michigan! Everyone at the wedding commented on how nice it was to have them at not only our ceremony but playing through the reception!

Thank you again,

"BRASSJAR MUSIC was my one stop shop for all my music needs when planning a recent high-profile wedding at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Everything was flawless from the planning, execution, and quality of musicians. The Great Lakes String Quartet plus trumpet performed during the ceremony. The jazz quartet handled the cocktail hour. The Motor City Jazz Orchestra, featuring the music of Harry Connick, Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Count Basie was the hit of the night by creating a memorable event for my client and their guests."

"First of all, I wanted to thank you for all of your help in arranging the Great Lakes String Quartet for our wedding. The string quartet and trumpet sounded absolutely amazing in the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel. We were particularly pleased with how controlled the trumpet player was. I was initially worried that the trumpet would be too loud in the chapel, but it sounded beautiful. I wish I could have thanked each of the musicians in person, but please let them know that we were very pleased and would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. Thanks again!"

"The Great Lakes String Quartet really added to the ambiance of my wedding. As former music majors, my husband and I were insistent on having top musicians play during our ceremony and cocktail hour...we were not disappointed! I would highly recommend this group for your special event."

"As an event director, every aspect of the event is a reflection of me, so it is important that everything I do and everyone I hire be top notch. The Motor City Horns added class and joy to my event at the Detroit Athletic Club and I will definitely not hesitate to hire them in the future. They are a class act and gave an impeccable performance. My hat goes off to them!"

"We contacted the Motor City Brass Quintet to perform during our wedding ceremony and their beautiful music made it an evening to remember. They have an incredibly diverse repertoire and even accomodated our unique requests. They were always easy to contact, showed up early, looked and sounded great, and were simply consummate professionals. Our guests raved about their performance and we couldn't have been happier with our decision to have them at our special event. Thank you MCBQ!"

"I have been very pleased with the instrumentalists that John has contracted for me at Memorial Church and for the New Cranbrook Singers. Our outdoor carillon concert audience overlooking Lake Saint Clair especially enjoyed the Motor City Brass Quintet and their performance of Handel's Water Music."

"The contribution from the Brothers Groove, "My Favorite Time of Year," is one standout, a tuneful strut of organ-heavy soul that romps though charming, original details of the season. Led by the distinctive vocals of keyboardist Chris Codish, the Brothers Groove wisely employ the Motor City Horns, who offer smart arrangements that give the song chipper immediacy."

Trombonist John Rutherford calls English Village home

"John Rutherford's performance with the Grosse Pointe Symphony (5/1/05) was a tribute to his classical training. The cadenza's that Rutherford performed in Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Concerto for Trombone were cleanly presented, the tone fluid in quality and the tonality of the total performance rich in warmth and punctuated with excitement and style. When Rutherford played Alexandre Guilmant's, 'Morceau Symphonique', it was a mellow, rich sound different in style from the Rimsky-Korsakov. This young man is already on his way to be recognized as one of the finest trombonists in the music world."
